Cable Installation- Norwich, Norfolk

A recent cabling project undertake by solutions was for a Norwich based firm of estate agents that required a structured cable network using Cat 5 cable.

Cat5 Cabling Requirements

The system required 38 points using Cat5 cable, spread throughout the basement and Ground floor of a six story building. The offices had already been networked without the use of trunking running cables along the top of skirting boards and the joints between walls and ceilings. Through wall access had already been found by drilling through door frames.

Network Cable Design

The first stage of the installation project involved a site survey of the Norwich office to determine the required Network Cable Design The key requirements of the installation were to provide a flexible Cat5 cable network leaving the minimum of cables or trunking exposed all terminating into a central Comm's Room in the basement.

On arriving the project manager spent a considerable amount of time working out the best cable route. A route was selected that allowed the whole system to be installed with the minimum of visible cabling.

By making use of a false ceiling and lifting floorboards the network installation was completed with the emphasis on the customer's needs of the minimum of visible cabling. The Cat5 cabling was installed and everything refitted and cleaned including removal of some of the old cable network in preparation for the decorators.

Solutions was asked to reroute the door intercom telephone as a different room was to be used as the reception. As suggested by the project manager, intercom was incorporated into the patch panel to allow the intercom phone to be moved around the building connecting to any Cat5 point.

Network Commissioning

The final stage of the installation was to complete a thorough system test to ensure all Cat5 points worked correctly. The patch panels were then installed and the Comm's Room trunking completed.
A final inspection was completed by the customer and the installation was signed off as complete.
